Surgical stainless steel
Our jewellery is mainly made from surgical stainless steel, also referred to as 316L.

Jewellery in surgical stainless steel has many advantages:

* Hard-wearing and suitable for everyday use
* Does not discolour/oxidise
* Allergy-friendly (hypoallergenic)
* Can be used in water
* Recyclable, the most environmentally friendly metal used for jewellery.

Gold plating

To achieve the gold colour in our jewellery, By Jolima uses  2-5 microns (μm) 14k gold PVD plating. PVD is the plating that is also often used on watches
PVD provides very high resistance to wear caused by, for example, daily use, water, sweat, perfume etc.
PVD is also more environmentally friendly than other coating methods.

Silver and gold-plated brass
To extend the lifespan of our brass jewellery, we have chosen to plate it with 14k gold or 925 silver. A silver or gold plating can gradually wear away over time, depending on wear and your skin’s pH value. Chlorine, perfume, body lotion, spray and even medicines can discolour the jewellery. Our brass jewellery meets the requirements according to EU standards, i.e. that the nickel content released is below the permitted limit value (0,05 %)

Acetate
Acetate is a type of synthetic plastic made from cellulose, a natural component found in plant cell walls. Acetate is biodegradable under the right favourable conditions compared with other plastic materials.

Cubic zirconia
Cubic zirconia is a synthetic stone that resembles a diamond, both in appearance and in character. The stone is very hard and can be cut to imitate a diamond. The cubic zirconia stones we use are set by hand.

Cultured freshwater pearls
Freshwater pearls are cultivated in lakes and rivers by placing a round nacre bead or another foreign body inside a mussel together with a piece of mantle tissue from another mussel. The mantle tissue then forms the so-called pearl sac around what will become a pearl, and then layer upon layer of nacre is created. This means that cultured freshwater pearls can vary in colour and shape. All our cultured freshwater pearls come from China.

Enamel
For some of our jewellery we use coloured enamel with a glossy, beautiful surface. The enamel is made from a transparent glass mass that is heated up and then coloured with different pigments.
